One reason Outlook fails to launch is that you’ve installed faulty add-ins in the app. These add-ins may be working incorrectly, causing the app not to launch. If you can't choose any of the menu options, type inside an email message, calendar event, or contact, Outlook may have frozen. There are three steps you can take to try to get Outlook working again.

If it does and Outlook starts working properly, then most likely the problem is with one of your add-ins, which leads us to the next step. The browser version isn’t impacted by local Outlook files or add-ins. When opening certain messages, Outlook might be loading content from the internet. This can result in delays or even a full Outlook freeze on slower connections. Outlook freezing or becoming unresponsive isn’t just frustrating—it can derail your entire day.

These issues might occur if a mailbox contains lots of folders or there are lots of items in any one folder. There's no hard limit to how many folders a mailbox can contain or how many items a folder can contain. However, you might experience decreased performance as the number of items approaches 10,000 calendar items, 10,000 folders, or 100,000 mail items per folder. Large numbers of recurring meetings or long-lived recurring meetings can also have an exaggerated effect on performance. One-time meetings have a relatively small effect, and long-lived, recurring meetings have a greater effect. A change that's made in an instance of a recurring meeting creates exceptions that are stored in the recurring meeting series.

The built-in methods to stop Outlook crashing back-off mechanisms in the indexing component of Windows Search or WDS pauses the indexing of Outlook data when the system is under heavy use. The easiest way to let the indexing finish is to leave Outlook running overnight.Additionally, you can reduce performance issues by running Outlook in Cached Exchange Mode. In this mode, Windows Search or WDS searches the local copy of the mailbox instead of the mailbox content on the server. I even reduced mailboxes sizes and that didn't help, I setup a new user (albeit existing PC but new windows profile), and he is having the same issues. If the mailboxes open automatically after removing them and restarting Outlook, they may be auto mapped. This setting can be changed by an Exchange admin by submitting a request via Jira and including the usernames of the client and the usernames of the mailboxes that need to be removed.
